NST: Nonlinear System Tools

NST is a tool for writing novels, short stories, poems, and other forms of text in a way that makes the reader’s decisions count.


Everything that happens can have inter-dependencies such as:

A can only happen if B has already happened.
A can only happen if B can happen.
A can only happen if B could ever have happened.
A can only happen if B is happening at the moment.
A can only happen if X is more than 1
And much much more!

NST has an Editor and a Reader. The NST Editor is a standalone program that enables you to write branching stories from scratch. The NST Reader is a tool that visually renders these stories using HTML/JavaScript/CSS with all their power. The Reader is available for free and also comes bundled with the editor.

How it works

It’s really simple! All stories have only two main components: states and properties.

A state is a moment in time, a description of a situation. It contains a logical link with everything that might lead to that situation.

A property is essentially a numeric value, which can hold information on the amount of health you have, or your armor strength, or your relationship with other characters in the story, or anything else you might imagine.

The states and properties are interconnected to form a story, which one can read in a branching fashion based on own’s decisions.

Who’s behind it

NST is a single-person operation, the brainchild of Martin Petkovski. Development started in early 2021 and will continue into the foreseeable future. All inquiries and requests are encouraged, I’m trying to respond to all messages as soon as possible.

What can be achieved with it

NST is tailored towards creating hypertext fiction that follows a branching or nonlinear narrative.


Examples of literature that can be written and played in their entirety in NST include: James Joyce’s Ulysses, Enrique Jardiel Poncela’s La Tournée de Dios, Jorge Luis Borges’ The Garden of Forking Paths, Italo Calvino’s The Castle of Crossed Destinies, various Choose Your Adventure magazines, and so on.

The NST Reader is capable of everything that Chromium is able to do, including playing video and audio, so in theory, it is even able to run movies and TV shows such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, if they are to be written in the NST format.

ALWAYS test games with a new save file first to ensure the game handles pausing without issues. Alternatively backup your save files beforehand to avoid any risk of save file corruption.

MyDockFinder

MyDockFinder es un software para el inicio rápido del sistema y el control de las funciones del sistema de visualización. What is it?
Trailmappers is a unofficial map editor for Trailmakers! This app lets you create maps with ease with a simple and easy to use UI. Putting these maps into Trailmakers is as easy as hitting export, loading Trailmakers and enjoying your creation!

Auxiliary gadgets made by personal interests. The file sorting tools on the market are either charged or cumbersome to use with various redundant functions, so I’m impatient to make this program to use.

The main functions are as follows:

1. Organize folders. Users can use the software to automatically create folders for files to save.

2. Add different kinds of labels in the program, and then drag the labels to the folder to complete the classification of the folder.

3. Search through tags, and fuzzy search can also be carried out for folder names.

4. It supports multiple different label sets, and can switch between label sets to meet the needs of users for a variety of different folder classifications.

Reality Mixer lets you bring real objects into VR. It uses the cameras on the headset to show a real object and its surroundings in the current VR environment. It can be used at the same time as other VR software and games.

Think of objects like keyboard & mouse, a racing wheel, HOTAS, a clock on the wall, a drink on your desk, a phone, a tablet, a chair, etc. Also larger real objects can be used. Like the door to your room, so you can see who comes in, or the couch with your friends.

Bringing real objects into a virtual environment is known as ‘Augmented Virtuality‘.
Reality Mixer creates ‘boxes of reality’ which are shown in VR.
Apart from these ‘camera boxes’ the app also provides a mixed reality Cockpit for use with simracing and flight simulators, a Floor Viewer to quickly see the real floor around your feet and a Lap Viewer for use with seated experiences such as Big Screen. Lap Viewer can be used for quick glances at a normal (untracked) keyboard on your lap.

If you have a Vive or Tundra Tracker, you can attach a camera box to it so the tracked object will be visible wherever it is in your play area.

The real objects (and their immediate surroundings) don’t have to be visible all the time. There are three activation methods:

• Activate by Proximity: Objects (camera boxes) will fade out when you are too far away. This fade out distance can be set by yourself.
  
• Activate by Gaze Angle: Look straight at a camera box to make it visible. Use this activation method with seated games where you have things on a table next to your seat. The activation angle and optional activation delay can be configured. Using an activation delay means you have to look at the object for a second before it starts to show itself, to prevent accidental activation. Floor Viewer and Lap Viewer both use Gaze Angle Activation by default, but can also use Proximity or ButtonPress activation.
  
• Activate by Button Press: Press a keyboard, mouse, gamepad, HOTAS or racing wheel button to turn on/off a camera box.

When an object is not visible, it will not use any resources.

If you have an Elgato Stream Deck, or if you use Touch Portal on your phone or tablet, you can use it in VR with Reality Mixer.

Chroma keying (green screen) makes the background of the objects transparent so the VR world shows through. This can be useful for objects such as a racing wheel and HOTAS.

Instructions

• Start the app once from your Steam Library. It will auto-launch with SteamVR next time.
  
• Open the SteamVR dashboard.
  
• Click the icon for the Reality Mixer app. See image below.
  
• Follow instructions on screen.
  
• If you use it on a Quest, Pico or Vive XR Elite, you need to turn on passthrough in the Virtual Desktop app on your Quest/Pico/Vive XRE.
