Only 12 can be active at a time though, so think twice before swapping.

7 floors full of danger await you, each one more hostile than the last.
Every fight will pose a different challenge, can you overcome every single one, or will your strategy crumble?

This is my first game ever published, it was made for me to learn how game development worked and the prosses in creating games.

The gameplay mostly consists of pressing W, A, S, or D in the correct order within the time limit.

You are the sovereign of a town called Mistwinter Bay. The sovereign you create decides the fate of the town and everyone in it. Decide which buildings to build and who gets to live in town. Interact with your townsfolk by sending them on missions or hang out one-on-one. Each character is unique, with their own profession, personal history and strengths and weaknesses. Deal with international politics by befriending or becoming enemies with powerful foreign leaders. Watch the seasons pass as you are faced with a unique, random event every month. The way you decide to handle an event not only affects the ending of the event itself, but the entire town. Will you become a sovereign loved by all or will you adapt your choices to please someone in town – or perhaps someone across the sea?

Create the sovereign you want to be with the powerful character creator. Choose between a variety of body types, faces, hairstyles, outfits and accessories, with the ability to color most aspects freely. All options are available for all types of sovereigns.

The town of Mistwinter Bay is home to all sorts of people. There are three townsfolk at your service from the start, ready to be sent to handle tasks in events if you ask them to, but more can move in by expanding the town with additional buildings. You can hang out with the locals one-on-one, if your reputation is good enough. Eventually, this may even lead to marriage. Keep in mind, however, that they are their own individuals, with their own opinions, and they may like or dislike you based on your actions. If you are unlucky – or cruel – your actions may even spell their death.

At your assistance are your two advisers – Jacques and Sophia – who keep you updated on any and all things going on in Mistwinter Bay and beyond. Trust your advisers or go against them during random, unique events that occur every month. The choices you make in these events may affect individual townsfolk, the entire town, and maybe even places beyond it.

Mistwinter Bay can be expanded at your leisure – if you have the resources required. You decide which buildings to build and ultimately who lives in the town. Most buildings are associated with a character, so when a new building is built, you can expect a new face in town. If you are ever curious about who can move in to town, make sure to check out the local inn every season to see who has journeyed to Mistwinter Bay.

Mistwinter Bay is but a small town on a great continent full of colorful cultures and people. As a new player on the continental arena, you get the chance to meet and interact with some of the most powerful people on the continent of Hruminus. If you play your cards right, you may gain powerful allies – maybe even more than that.

If you have found your true love, you may start a family together by adopting one of four children. Every child has their own personality and your interactions with them will shape their future – and by extension, the future of Mistwinter Bay.

Spore Valley is a bite-sized resource management puzzle in which you grow an alien slime mold over a hex-based grid while carefully managing a turn-based metabolic resource system.

Will you starve and dry out, or will you complete your slime’s life cycle, casting off spores into the wind to give rise to the next generation?

Your home planet is an arid, sun-blasted planet baking under a youthful star. But here and there, underground rivers dart to the surface, carving the desert into narrow, habitable valleys.

Your slime germinates in just such a valley, and you must steward it through its lifecycle. It is a complex sci-fi organism inspired by real-life examples of modern and fossil fungi, slime molds, and lichen, and is among the first complex organisms to make a living on this harsh young world.

Spore Valley blends a turn-based town-builder with a resource management puzzle. Your world is a map of hex tiles across which you must grow your alien slime, choosing from a variety of different biological forms to grow, each with their own unique requirements, constraints, and contributions to the puzzle of your survival.

Resource Management Puzzle

There are 5 core metabolites, which are resources critical to your slime’s biological functioning. Different forms of your slime produce and consume different metabolites each time you progress to the next turn.

Running out of any of these resources can cause your slime to lose portions of its body or completely starve to death, so it’s important to produce enough metabolites. But beware: if you produce too many, metabolites can build up to toxic levels, which can also cause your slime to suffer.

Metabolites depend on interacting with the slime’s environment, and not all resources are infinite, so you will need to balance your rates of growth, production, and consumption carefully if you want to grow complex enough to complete your slime’s life cycle.

Spore Valley is a short game, meant to provide a complete experience of puzzling play in a single extended sitting. Still, random maps can add variety to replays, and you can use difficulty settings to challenge yourself to become a more efficient slime grower, whether for your own satisfaction or in pursuit of achievements.

Spore Valley first germinated as an solo developer entry in the Ludum Dare 54 game jam. It has since been rebuilt from the ground up with new mechanics, a new 2.5D art style, a new UI paradigm, and professional art and music. It was developed primarily using open-source tools, including the Godot game engine, Inkscape, Gimp, and Audacity.
