Nonsensical Video Generator is an automated video production tool that uses imported media, user-made effects, and a variety of parameters to randomly pick and transform clips into a single render that mimics the crude video editing styles made popular by the “YTP” genre.

Nonsensical Video Generator (NVG) is an automated video production tool designed to mimic the crude video editing styles made popular by the “YTP” genre.

How does it work?

Import or download videos and audio clips, subscribe to user-made effects on the Workshop, and adjust a range of customizable parameters. NVG will then transform your content by picking media at random and choosing to perform certain actions, all without any form of AI.

You can easily share your rendered results with your friends or with the community!

How could I join the community?

The official Nonsensical Video Generator Discord community is a place where you can share your creations and download user-submitted media for each of the library categories that NVG supports. If you need help, the Discord is the best place to ask for support as well.

On the Workshop page, please feel free to browse for new and interesting effects or themes that other users have made. You can also create your own custom addons to upload for anyone to use! Addons are scripted in Lua and documentation is available to get started. You can use built-in templates and upload to the Steam Workshop directly in-app.

Which kind of media is supported?

NVG supports importing videos and audio clips, categorized by “libraries.”
You can import your media into these libraries by default:

  • Video

    • Materials: Required, as these videos will be spliced into clips.

    • Transitions: These videos are played at their full length in place of a clip.

    • Intros & Outros: Show off by adding flair to the start or end of your renders.

    • Overlays: Use a green screen background to chroma-key on top of clips.

  • Audio

    • Sound FX: This library is linked to the “Random Sound” effect, which plays one of these sound effects at the same time as a clip.

    • Music: This library is linked to the “Dance” effect, which plays this music and makes the clip play in reverse and forward again, and so on.

    • Rave: This library is linked to the “Rave” effect, which plays this music and randomizes the frames of the clip at high-speed.

    • Vocoder: This library is linked to the “Vocoder” effect, which makes the clip‘s original audio turn into one of these vocoder “carriers.”

Additionally, community-contributed effects can also create their own video and audio libraries for you to import media into.
Using “.mp4” and “.mp3” media files are recommended, however other formats may be used with possible limitations.
Some effects on the Workshop may also download media for you if required.
